Wallowing in Mud Puddles

In a recent conference of various denominations; one of the participants, in a discussion of “discipleship” offered up a phrase I rather fancied.  In previous writings I’ve suggested the idea of pondering or meditating to discern deeply the application of that which we are considering.  This is a practice that distills through our own filters what might be the pure products of our consumption.

Knowing the applicable meaning to ourselves of the things we are pondering, whether they be principles of great books, scripture, or living examples,  is accomplished by taking time in our “sacred places” to connect with our inner-self.  This process was labeled by one spiritual leader in this conference as “Wallowing in Mud Puddles”.

pig-in-mudWe raise a few pigs on the farm, and regardless of whether you partake of or have deference to this animal; you have to admit this pig looks blissfully happy in her surroundings.  I imagine she is pondering deeply; she has found her sacred place, and is taking a deep dive into things that matter (to her).

I believe we should take the time to wallow in the mud as it were; to connect with our inner-self as we filter the true products of our consumption’s.
